Theron (Ron) Wigton

Theron (Ron) Wigton of Sandwich, IL, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora at the age of 80. He was born August 29, 1942 in Aurora to Janice and Wayne Wigton.

Ron is survived by his wife of the last 11 years, Ann (Brown) Wigton, his son Kenneth (Wendy) Wigton of Independence, KY and his grandsons Nathan and Carter. His son, Jeffrey (Aimee) Wigton and his grandchildren Alex and Elizabeth of Plainfield, IL. His sister Janet (Pat) Inlow of Fergus Falls, MN. His nephew Scott (Pam) Inlow of Boulder, Colorado. His sister Jo Ann (Roy) Boecker of Prescott, AZ. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 43 years, Pam (Batorson) Wigton, his son Timothy, and his niece Sheri (Inlow) Washeleski .

Ron was a proud US Navy Veteran. He was on active duty stationed in Norfolk, VA for 2 years(1967-1968). Ron served in the Naval Reserves from 1965 until his retirement in 1990. After his active duty, he and Pam moved to Aurora, IL and eventually to Sandwich, IL where they made their home and he has lived for the last 50 years.

Ron was active in the Lions Club for the last 50 years. During that time he served as President, several terms as Secretary, Zone Chairman and he was active at the state level. Ron was also active in the Lions of Illinois Foundation. Ron was very active in his community, he volunteered with his church, St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sandwich. He was also a part time instructor for the Waubonsee Community College Learning program where he taught classes and shared his love of World War II history.

Ron had a lifelong love of trains. He enjoyed constructing models for his layout, collecting model trains and traveling to see trains and train bridges in several states. Ron and Ann enjoyed traveling together, taking advantage of opportunities to enjoy their retirement years.

Services will include visitation on Monday, January 23rd from 5-8 p.m., at the Beverage Family Funeral Home, 104 Terry Street, Sandwich, IL. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 24th at 10:00 a.m. at St Paul's Catholic Church, 340 W. Arnold Street, Sandwich, IL 60548. Interment will be in St Paul's Cemetery following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lions of Illinois Foundation, 700 N Peace Road, Suite B, DeKalb, IL 60115.
