Sean Carl Griesmann

Sean Carl Griesmann, 41, of Sandwich and Plano, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, July 6th, 2024, in Sandwich, Illinois. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 13th at 1 p.m. at the home of Tonya (Gage) Blackwell and his children, located at 2050 Rock Creek Road, Plano, Illinois.

Sean was born in Aurora, Illinois, to Richard Glenn and Naomi Sue (Rugaber) Griesmann on September 15th, 1982. He attended Sandwich High School, where he graduated with the class of 2000. A true jack-of-all-trades, Sean was currently working in the construction and remodeling field, with aspirations of one day owning his own business. He was a lifelong Yankees fan, an avid music mixer, a car enthusiast, and an insatiable reader of history and conspiracy (real) theories. Sean delighted in storm chasing and spent much of his time outdoors fishing, kayaking, and enjoying time at the family cottage in Yorkville. He cherished family vacations and was known for his playful sense of humor, often teasing friends and family in good fun. Sean had a passion for cooking, frequently inventing new recipes, and had even worked as a cook in his younger days. As a child, he loved spending time at the roller rink, playing baseball, participating in scouting, and riding his bike around town. However, what Sean treasured most was his children—they were his entire world. He relished taking them to school dances and events, teaching them to fish, kayaking and boating on the Fox River, playing video games together, and simply spending quality time with them.

Sean is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Glenn and Naomi Sue (Rugaber) Griesmann; his paternal grandparents, George and Amelia (Roehri) Griesmann; his maternal grandparents, Leroy and Harriet (Skorupinski) Rugaber; uncles, George Griesmann and Paul Hensley; aunt, Angela (Robert) Hubbs; and cousins, Mike and Theresa (Smith) Griesmann.

He is survived by his beloved children, Caleb and Kayla Griesmann; his sisters, Michelle Cusimano, Melissa (Stuart) Holstein, and Cheryl (Steve) Berenyi; many nieces and nephews, Tristen, Caden, Jonah, Zoey, Jaxson, Callie, Mason, and Emilia; the mother of his children, Tonya (Gage) Blackwell; and their son, Colson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Sean’s kids by making a donation through Venmo or Zelle to @cherylberenyi. The family thanks everyone for their support during this difficult time.
