Robert (Bob) P. Wetzel

Robert (Bob) P. Wetzel of Ashton, went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Mary, on April 28, 2023. Bob passed surrounded by his loving family at Serenity Home. Robert was born on March 29, 1941 to Joe and Edna Wetzel.  Bob was born and lived on the same farm his entire life.  Bob was a lifelong farmer, where you would find him at sale barns, trading cattle, or trading stories with friends at the coffee shop.  Bob did not know a stranger and chatted with everyone around him.  His love ran deep for his family, friends, farming, and community. Bob was proud of his children, Ron, Gary and Doug and all of their accomplishments. Bob took special pride in his grandchildren; whether it was watching AFC sporting events, FFA activities, dance recitals or hearing about their latest escapades.  He enjoyed spending time playing cards with friends and neighbors.  Bob was an active member of Franklin Grove Presbyterian Church serving on committees as well as napping during services. 

Robert is survived by his three children; Ronald (Jenell) Wetzel of Arlington Heights; Gary (Lori) of Franklin Grove and Douglas J. (Richard Devine) Wetzel of Beloit, Wisconsin; 5 grandchildren: Aaron (Siera) Wetzel, Addison (Dylan) Hopkins, Elizabeth, Emily and Eric Wetzel; great grandchild, Parker; sister, Betty Davis of Rockford, special niece, Deb Kehm of Dixon and brother-in-law Wayne Hussey. 

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Mary; his parents Joe and Edna Wetzel; brothers, Wayne, Donald and Rae; sister Joanne Menz.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Franklin Grove, Illinois or Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon, Illinois.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Franklin Grove, 106 S Walnut St, Franklin Grove, IL 61031. A funeral service will take place next day, Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at the church. A luncheon will take place afterwards followed by a procession from the church at 1:30 P.M. to Ashton Cemetery for interment.
