Oswald Hiermann

Oswald Hiermann, 89, went to be with the Lord suddenly on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in Glenview, Illinois. Oswald was born in Germany on June 12, 1936, to Rudolph and Theresa Hiermann.

With his uncle, he came from Germany to the United States when he was 18. Soon afterwards becoming an American citizen. Oswald bought his first building when he was 23. He had Chicago and Florida properties. Later on, he got his barber license, opening up his own shop. Oswald was a truck driver for 27 years, and an additional 30 years at age 50. Retiring at 80 years old.

He met his loving wife (Sandra) in 1964, and they were married for 59 years. They shared four children, Bill (Mary), Teresa (Glenn), Mark (Beata), and Susan (Bill). And seven grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandra, his brother, sister, parents, and loving in-laws.

He was a kind and generous man. Everyone who met him fell in love with his German personality. He was a gentleman but firm. As a proud man, he had a German personality, an infectious smile, and loved his family. From his silly jokes, his seriousness, gentle heart, and resilient ways. The stomach was his best friend and he could eat anything at anytime day or night. He sure had some crazy food concoctions.

He used to sing a lot on the phone. He was also definitely spiritual and loved to take us to church, especially on Christmas Eve when we were younger.

Growing up in German, he had many fun stories. His parents, Oma and Opa, were very sweet grandparents. Enjoying our Germany trips, especially at Oktoberfest.

He made sure we had everything we needed. Being a pure Republican, he loved Trump, Fox News, Hannity, and all his favorite TV programs. Additionally, he loved cars, taking care of them, and watching the O’Hare jets take off and land. Oswald enjoyed learning about his family’s achievements, goals, and dreams. He would share wisdom with all his grandchildren. Oswald had many friends up to the end. We know he will be missed by them and his loving family. Three of his favorite quotes were, “Let’s keep the peace”, “expect the unexpected” and “if I were a rich man”.

On behalf of the entire family, we would like to acknowledge his companion and caretaker, Barbara Ulman. And send our humbling thanks.

Arrangements were entrusted to Beverage-Lyons Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.beveragefamilyfh.com
