Margaret Jean Slaughter, 79, after a struggling battle with cancer passed away peacefully at home. She leaves behind 4 children, Kathleen (John) Wolfe of Earlville, IL, David (Linda) Slaughter of Texas, Paul (Melanie) Slaughter of Sandwich, IL and Matthew (Jennifer) Slaughter; She also leaves behind Bertha and Kirt, who were special in her heart and in theirs: 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; 75 nieces and nephews, who knew her as Aunt Jean; As well as 7 sisters-in-law and 3 brothers-in-law.
Her husband, Taylor Slaughter, passed in March 2019.
Margaret graduated from Northern at the age of 40. She had a love for writing and quilting and belonged to numerous clubs. In 1991, her and Taylor retired to Tishomingo, MS. She was active as a Community Events Writer, Library Board Member and the Red Hats Club. She leaves many dearly loved friends from California to Illinois.
After 17 years, they returned to Illinois and settled in Sandwich. Margaret became active in the Quilters Guild and Arts Club at the Sandwich Senior Center. For the past many years, her quilts were raffled during the Sandwich Fair and the proceeds were donated back to the Sandwich Senior Center. Her love for sewing touched many. Whether it be a purse, table runner, numerous baby quilts or a simple hem. She enjoyed her kolaches as a thank-you.
She was known for her advice, knowledge and dry sense of humor. The one phrase that stands out the most “Well, how did that work out for you Sparky?” said with loved and sarcasm.
The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Aunt Kris, hospice nurses, Brie and kaley, as well as caregivers, Debbie and Virginia.
Mom will be very missed, we know she is with the Lord, Dad and everyone else she loved.
Her wishes were for a private family ceremony.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Beverage Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.beveragefamilyfh.com
