Lois A. Sondgeroth

Lois Ann (Pomatto) Sondgeroth, 74, of Sandwich, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 2, 2024.

Lois was born in Ottawa, IL, to John (Jack) and Joyce Pomatto on May 23, 1950. She graduated from Marseilles High School in 1968, and attended Illinois Valley Community College where she met Leo and they were united in marriage on January 23, 1971. Lois began her career as a secretary in the Department of Corrections at the St. Charles Boys School in St. Charles, IL, and worked there for 5 years until Lois became a mother. The young family moved to Sandwich in 1976, where she was a homemaker until she started working for the Sandwich School District in 1985. She worked there for 36 years starting out at Sandwich High School as a classroom aide, moving into the office as a secretary and then ending her career as the Superintendent’s Administrative Assistant.

Lois was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and a charter member of the Sandwich Lioness Club. In her younger years, she was an avid crafter and spent countless hours in the kitchen cooking delicious meals for her family and preserving the bountiful produce from Leo’s garden.

Lois is survived by her husband Leo, daughters Elizabeth (Steven) Woods and Maria (Timothy) Kessler. Along with her beloved grandchildren, Garrett, Gavin, and Brynn Woods and Justin Kessler. She is also survived by her sister Ruth (Raymond) Landry and their children Gregory (Kim) Landry and Rachael (Scott) McMillan and her brother-in-law Allen (Mary Lynn) Sondgeroth and their children Douglas (Aina) Sondgeroth, Nathan (Jennifer) Sondgeroth and Neil Sondgeroth and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Lois was proceeded in death by her parents Jack and Joyce Pomatto and in-laws Leon and Irene Sondgeroth.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Beverage Funeral Home from 4-7 pm. On Friday, September 13, 2024, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Sandwich, IL, there will be a final visitation from 9-10 am and mass will begin at 10 am. Burial to follow at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Sandwich, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Open Door Rehabilitation Center of Sandwich, IL, or a personal charity of choice.
