Leon Jeffrey Miernicki

After a well lived life, Leon Jeffrey Miernicki, age 75, died on Jan. 7, 2026, in Sandwich, IL. Leon was born during May of 1950 at Lying In Hospital, U. Of Chicago, to parents, Chester & Lorraine (Rudski) Miernicki.

He grew up in the Brighton Park & Mt. Greenwood neighborhoods of Chicago and had nineteen years of Catholic education, attending St. Pancratius Grade School, Marist High School & John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH. There he received a BS in Chemistry & a Master’s in Physics. His study & research of Quartz Crystals for his thesis prepared him for a forty-year career with CTS knights, later called CTS Electronics.

In Dec. of 1975 Leon invited, Jan, to attend The Nutcracker Ballet at the Chicago Theater, that first date lead to courtship, engagement and over 46 years of marriage. Their children are James (Jennifer) Miernicki, Minneapolis, MN & Juliet (David) McAndrew, St. Charles, IL. He was also blessed with three grandchildren Molly, Wes and Quinn McAndrew.

Leon enjoyed the years raising his family and living at Lake Holiday, Somonauk. He enjoyed playing sports, pitching for Art’s Grocery Store’s soft ball team, coaching CTS's Women’s Softball Team, the CTS Golf League and playing basketball with co-workers. He was a devoted White Sox & Bears fan. Leon worked weekends & holidays as an Andy Frain Usher for the large downtown Chicago Theaters during high school and college. This exposure to the arts instilled a lifelong appreciation & enjoyment of classical music. Leon enjoyed traveling the country with his family and traveling the world for business. He enjoyed making new friends and learning about other cultures.

After a lifetime of excellent health and fitness Leon suffered several strokes. Through intensive physical therapy and dedication, he was able to recover the use of his right side and walked his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day, later he was able to hold his grandchildren in his arms. We have much appreciation for the staff & therapists at The Pavilion on Main St. who enabled Leon to keep his strength up over the last few years of his life. Also, thanks to JC Fitness & Catalyst Physiotherapy.

Survived by his devoted wife, Janette (Baker) Miernicki; Beloved children; Cherished grandchildren; Brothers, Christopher Miernicki, Daphne, AL & family, Paul (Lorna) Miernicki, Phoenix, AZ & family; Step-sisters, Maureen (Mark) Berkovitz, Carbondale, Nancy (Bob) Naatz, Egin, Laurie (Steve) Littel, Plano, TX; and Sister-in-law, Joan (Gary) Gresch, Phoenix, AZ and friends.
