Joyce Ann Dell

Joyce Ann (Peterson) Dell, 92, of Sandwich, IL, passed away on May 5, 2024 in Yorkville, Illinois.

Joyce was born in Plentywood, Montana to Marvin and Ethel Peterson on November 9, 1931. She went to school in Columbus, Montana and then Colorado State University in Greeley. She married Robert Dell on August, 17, 1954 in Columbus, Mt.. She graduated from Eastern Montana College in Billings, MT. She worked as a teacher in Kalispell, MT, New Haven, CT, and finally 1^st grade in Serena, IL until 1994. She was involved in many local groups including an investment club and many others, often associated with the church. Notably, she was a co-recipient with her husband of the 1^st annual Dell Award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness. The two of them gave many years of service to mental illness awareness including Pathways to Promise, a faith-based organization providing resources and contacts to church families with mental illness and their congregations. 

Joyce is survived by her three sons, David of Chandler, AZ, Rob of Sandwich, IL and Peter (Susan) of Sandwich, IL; six grandsons, Joshua, Isaiah, Steven, Adam, Evan and Tanner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in September 2023, her parents, and two sisters, Donna and Blanche.

Joyce’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Valley West Hospital, Saint Anthony’s in Rockford, Cedarhurst of Yorkville, as well as JourneyCare and Suncrest Hospice services. The unbelievable dedication to service and the wellbeing of those in their care simply cannot be described in words. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Open Door Rehabilitation Center in Sandwich, IL or the charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 am on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at United Church of Sandwich, 512 Lions Rd, Sandwich, IL. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 am with Pastor Tom Bourke officiating and a luncheon immediately following. A graveside service for Joyce and Bob will follow the luncheon out to Oak Mound Cemetery in Somonauk, IL. Arrangements were entrusted to Beverage Family Funeral Home.
