John ‘Mike’ Deuerling, 75, of Sheridan, Illinois, passed away on October 21, 2023. He was born in Chicago, IL on March 11, 1948, to John and Helen Deuerling.
Mike, the most loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather, is survived by his wife, Tallulah; son, Michael; daughters, Kristen, Lyndsey, Kim, and Cindy; sister, Marian, grandkids, Owen, Vanessa, Chris, Jennifer, Sabrina; great grandkids, Makayla, Ryan, Ruby, Tom, Mark, Jeremiah, Justin, Destiny, Isaac, Mason, and Kaden; and his faithful dog, Gonzo.
Mike had the personality and natural charisma that made it effortless for him to make friends – animals included – no matter the situation or event he was involved in. His laugh was infectious, and although his favorite jokes were repeated many times, they still got a laugh. He was a man of many stories – some factual and others not so much – all that would draw out awe inspiring conclusions. His tenacious mentality and love for the outdoors flourished when he moved to Sheridan, Illinois, where he built his own pond, amongst many other outdoor projects. His flowers always bloomed, and his gardens always flourished. And, he loved sharing the fruits of his labor with his family.
A lifelong avid Chicago White Sox fan, Mike literally grew up going to Comiskey Park, and he enjoyed many games with his family with his children. Opening Day was an annual event he never missed. He had a strong love of music, enjoying everything from Blues to Classic Rock, and his favorites made up the backdrop to every family get together. In addition, Mike just loved humorous t-shirts and wore them proudly!
A man of true integrity, Mike cared for his family with all his heart, and did everything to ensure that he provided his children with the best life possible without ever worrying about himself. His love for cooking brought the entire family together, and he loved providing incredible food and good music to those he loved.
Mike was a truly great man. His impact on his family will be forever felt and they love him more than words can say. He was a selfless man whose passing has left an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love is how he will be forever remembered.
