James (Jim) J. Gottberg Sr.

James (Jim) J. Gottberg Sr. passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2023. He was born on October 12, 1948 in Aurora, IL to Herbert and Mabel (Watkins) Gottberg. 

Jim married Denise Lynn Van Kirk on September 22, 1990 at the gazebo in downtown Sandwich. After many faithful years as a Caterpillar employee, he retired in 2003. Jim was also the proud owner of Jim’s Computer and Repair in Sandwich.

Jim’s favorite pastimes were spending time in the garage, gardening and woodworking. Every morning, Jim enjoyed feeding the squirrels peanuts at Silver Springs while drinking his coffee. He was a past member of the Sandwich Sportsman Club and an avid gun collector and fisherman.

From Canada to Mexico to Hawaii, Jim and Denise loved traveling together; especially cruising the Caribbean. They explored the Northwoods of Wisconsin for many years and stayed at their favorite place, The Honeymoon Suite, in Three Lakes, Wisconsin.

Jim is survived by his wife, Denise; Son, Kyle (Scott) GottbergSr., grandson, Kyle (Tessa Beyer) Gottberg Jr., great grandson, Wesley Scott Gottberg and great granddaughter, Kimberly Carmen Gottberg and grandson, Mason Gottberg; Son, Jim (Dawn) Gottberg Jr.; Sister, Melody (Richard) Kane and family. He is also survived by his favorite sisters-in-law, Susan (Paul Dubinski) Manenti and family, Nancy Van Kirk, and Sandra (Ron) Hall and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Brothers, La Vern, Herbert and Gregory Gottberg; Infant sister, Mary Gottberg; And his mother-in-law, Patricia Van Kirk.

Denise would like to thank the Sandwich Paramedics, friends, prayer warriors and Unity Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Jim’s courageous twenty year journey. And a special thanks to Laurie (Phillips) Chase for her testimony of faith and kindness to Jim through the valley of trials. (Psalm 23)

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023at 2:00 P.M. at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, Illinois. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Beverage Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.beveragefamilyfh.com
