George (Buzz) Henry Eibel Jr.

George “Buzz” Henry Eibel Jr., 85, of Sandwich, IL passed away on July 23, 2025. He was the son of George and Louise (Hassig) Eibel. He was born and grew up in Joliet, IL. He graduated Joliet Central High School in 1958. He joined the Army in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1961. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1991 with a Bachelor’s in General Studies. He was a member of the Boilermakers Union and retired from there in 2000.

He loved swimming and diving growing up and won several medals in competition. Later on, he was a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. He loved to fish and hunt, especially in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where his parents took him on vacations while growing up. After his father retired in 1970, his parents moved to the UP permanently. Buzz spent as much time up there fishing as possible.

He married Vicki Atkinson in 1970 and they had 3 children, Lorin, Braden, and Travis Eibel.

He is survived by his wife Vicki of 55 years, his daughter Lorin. His granddaughters (Lorin) Misty Davis, Ashley Eibel, Mandy Eibel, and (Travis) Savannah Grace Eibel. His nephew Dwayne (Marsha) Bookwalter, niece Amy (James) Kubicek, great nieces, Laura (Dakota Waalkins) and Jessica Bookwalter, and great-great niece Teagan Rae Waalkins. Several close cousins Mickey (Mary) Clary, Sharon MacClenaghan, Mary Ann Rosa.

He is preceded in death by his parents George and Louise Eibel. His aunt Louise Eibel, his sons, Braden (1972) and Travis (2020), his sister Georgia Bookwalter (2022).

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on August 6th, 2025 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd. Elmwood, IL 60421. We will gather together at the silver dollar restaurant in Elwood, IL afterwards.
