Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Hegland

Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Hegland, 89, of Sandwich, IL, passed away on July 12, 2024 in Shabbona, IL.

Betty was born in Aurora, IL to Steven and Margaret Stanoy on October 22, 1934. Betty graduated from Madonna High School in Aurora, IL. Steven worked as the “maintenance man” at Madonna High School which allowed him to send his three daughters to Madonna and son to Marmion Military Academy. Betty met her future husband at a barn dance when the handsome Ellewyn Hegland literally swept her off her feet and wouldn’t take no for an answer when he asked her to dance! They were married on May 19, 1956, in Newark, IL. She raised her two boys lovingly with “always pressed clothes,” bellies full of steak, potatoes, homemade pies, and cakes. There were always more than enough leftovers to feed their many friends who were always “just stopping by”. Later in life, Betty worked as a Personal Secretary at Imperial Marble Company in Somonauk, IL. Ellewyn and Betty were avid golfers and for many years were members at Edgebrook GC in Sandwich, IL.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Ellewyn; Son, Wade; Granddaughter, Alyse-Marie; Sisters, Irene and Margaret “Dolly”; And a brother, Steven.

Betty is survived by her son, Scott (Traci) Hegland; Granddaughters, (Scott and Traci) Rachel Hegland and Olivia (Tony) Busalacchi; Great-Grandsons, (Olivia and Tony) Arrington, Bennox, and Gino; Grandsons, (Wade) Erik (Lindsey) and Jacob Hegland; Great-Grandsons, (Erik) Elijah and Isaac; Sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Dale Knutson; And sister-in-law, Helen Stanoy.

The Family would like to give a special “thank you” to Ms. Cheryl Westbrook of Sandwich, IL for the care, love and devotion she provided Betty over the years; the employees of Prairie Crossing Nursing Home in Shabbona, IL for the care and support during the final months of her life and to John and Lori Carey for all their love and laughter they gave to Betty over the years. 

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. at Beverage Family Funeral Home, 104 Terry St. Sandwich, IL 60548. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home with a graveside service to follow out to Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL.
