Dorothy D. Atkinson

Dorothy Deloris (Treece) Atkinson, passed away at the age of 84 on Thursday, December, 11th 2025 in Rochelle, Illinois. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on January 12, 1957, in St. Louis, Missouri. She belonged to the Rochelle, Illinois congregation since 1964.

She was born in Marston, Missouri, on August 12, 1941. She grew up in the Marston and Portageville areas of Missouri. She moved to St. Louis with her mother and siblings in the 1950's, where she graduated from 8th grade. In the late 1950's, she worked in the accounting department of Scruggs, Vandervoort and Barney Department store in St Louis, which she was very proud of and loved. All the while, she always looked out for her younger siblings and remained devoted to her faith. She then moved to Rochelle, Illinois in the mid 1960’s.

She married Walter Atkinson in Rochelle, Illinois, on August 9, 1975, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year. She was an avid chocolate lover, never passing up a chance to sneak a bite. She loved her cats, and enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels outside of her home. She was extremely knowledgeable about the Bible and could find scriptures in the blink of an eye. She also enjoyed playing card games such as Nutsy and Rummy, spent many hours crocheting, had much love for her spiritual brothers and sisters, but most of all loved preaching about Jehovah's Kingdom.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her mother Mable (McMeans) Treece, and survived by her husband Walter Atkinson, daughter Yvette (Atkinson) Garcia, granddaughter Daniella Garcia, brother Fred Dale Treece, sister Bettie (Treece) Cullen, sister Karen (Treece) Vogler and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Not to mention her other Atkinson family members, Tinkerbell and Puff Puff, her two kitties.
