Donald R. Rosentreter, 78, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, in Chatham, IL surrounded by his family. He was born in Chicago, IL, and raised in Sandwich, IL, a community that always remained close to his heart.
Don attended Sandwich High School and later studied at Northern Illinois University, building the foundation of a life marked by curiosity, connection, and dedication.
He proudly served in the United States Navy for five years, carrying deep pride in his military service throughout his life. After returning home, Don built a long successful career as a life insurance salesman, a path that allowed him to meet countless people, forge meaningful relationships, and travel around the world. His genuine warmth and easy conversation left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Known for his great sense of humor, Don had a unique talent for bringing laughter to any room. He was a devoted sports fan and especially loved cheering on the Chicago Bears, faithfully supporting his team through every season.
He found joy in reading books, watching old movies, and listening to music, especially jazz and barbershop quartets-timeless passions that reflected his love of tradition and simple pleasures.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Arline Rosentreter. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Rosentreter, his children, Devin, Karen, and Kyle, and his four cherished grandchildren, Abby, Alex, Dexter, and Xavier, whom he adored beyond measure.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. at Beverage Family Funeral Home, 104 Terry St. Sandwich, IL 60548. A funeral service will take place at 12:00 P.M. with a graveside service to follow out to Pratt-Oaklawn Cemetery in Sandwich, IL.
Memorials may be given to Sandwich American Legion Post 181 in Don’s honor, reflecting his deep pride in his service and his lifelong connection to his community.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for and comforted Don during his final days, especially the compassionate team at Gentiva Hospice. Their kindness will never be forgotten.
Don’s life was one of dedication, humor, love, and strength. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
