Debra Jo Doolin, 53, of Sandwich, Illinois, formerly of Bowling Green, Kentucky, passed away suddenly, but peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the Pavilion Healthcare after a brief illness. She was affectionately known to others as Debbie. She was in the care, guidance and direction of Unity Hospice and Palliative Care in Chicago, Illinois since February 15, 2024. Debra is now resting comfortably and peacefully in the loving arms of Jesus Christ, her Lord & Savior.
Debra was born in Santa Ana, California on October 31, 1970 to Harold and Aiko Doolin. She was educated from ages 4 - 21 in the special education department of Jones Jaggers Elementary School and Warren East High School in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Debra was mentally handicapped with neurocognitive disorder and intellectual disability due to a high fever at 6 months old, and has faced many challenges in her lifetime. She was raised by her mother, Aiko, before her passing on December 23, 2018. Debra's older sister, Patricia, immediately took over her care as caregiver, custodian, and legal guardian. Debra was loved, cherished, and adored by her family, friends, loved ones, and nursing staff. She loved cats, enjoyed listening to records and albums on the stereo, loved listening to music of all genres including Christian Contemporary, 60's, 70's, 80's music, Pop, Country, and Rock & Roll whether if it was on the radio or record player. She enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, coloring, working on art, crafts and puzzles, looking through books, magazines, catalogs, and newspapers. She liked going to church, singing church hymnals, and children's Bible songs. Her passion was collecting baby dolls and found such great joy and comfort in them.
Debra is preceded in death by her mother, Aiko Doolin. Her brother, Michael Doolin. Her grandparents, Basil & Gladys Doolin. Her cousins, Medina Miller and Carla Miller.
She is survived by her father, Harold Doolin, from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Her sisters, Patricia (Carl) Hannenberg from Sandwich, Illinois and Kimberly (Bryan) Griffin from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Her nieces, Melissa (Christopher) Carter; Meshaila Carpenter and Oreana Doolin all from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Her nephews, Kyle Hannenberg, from Sandwich, Illinois; Malaki Doolin and Jaxson Griffin from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Her great nephews, Noah Carter, Sawyer Carter, Finn Carter, Xzavion Beason, Zyaire Goliday, Tru Goliday, Kingston Dowlen, and Trasyn Taylor all from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Her great niece, Violet Carter, also from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Debra is also survived by her aunts, Irene Miller from Fort Mill, South Carolina; Judy Doolin from Bowling Green, Kentucky. She is survived by an uncle, James Doolin, from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Her cousins, Glenda (Mike) Collins from Fort Mill, South Carolina; Tania (Wesley) Gardner and Rodney (Kendra) Doolin from Bowling Green, Kentucky.
