David R. Seymour

David R. Seymour, 88 of Oswego Illinois, passed away on Thursday January 1, 2026. He was born October 18, 1937, in Hoopeston Illinois to Herbert and Leah (Schott) Seymour. He was a graduate of Illinois State University with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education. He taught music in Neponset and Beason Illinois before moving to Sandwich Illinois. He taught music and sixth grade math and science for 28 years, retiring in 1993.

He is survived by his children Deborah (Christine) Seymour of Oswego Il., Robert (Karisa) Seymour of Madison, Georgia. His grandchildren; Zachary, Nicholas and Kathryn. His sisters-in law Barbara Ewalt and Paula (Russel) Ross and many nieces and nephews he held dear. David was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia of 56 years, his brothers: John, Bill and Don.

His life was filled with many adventures. He canoed near the Hudson Bay and in the Anderson River in the northwest territories with his good friends. He and Sylvia enjoyed anything outdoors but snow skiing throughout the US and Canada gave them great joy. They also traveled the world, often just the two of them or with lifelong friends. He was a lifelong learner, and enjoyed reading, woodworking, physics just to name a few of the many things in his life.

Services will be Saturday January 17, 2026, at United Church of Sandwich. Visitation will be 9:30 am, and will conclude with Funeral Services at 11am., officiated by Pastor Thomas Bourke. Luncheon will be served following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to United Church of Sandwich.

Family thanks the staff and residents of The Bickford of Oswego for their care and friendship of David the last year in assisted living.
