Bonny Young, 94, of Plano, IL was welcomed to heaven by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 27, 2024. Bonny was born to David (Davie) L. and Stella Rose Ella (Michael) Halfacre of Iuka, IL. She was born when her parents lived in a log cabin. She loved growing up on a farm and being out with all the animals. At the age of 13, she heard the gospel of Jesus Christ preached on the radio, and she asked the Lord to be her Savior that day. Shortly after that, she attended Hickory Hills Baptist Church and followed the Lord in believer’s baptism. She attended school in Union through the 8th grade. Then she started babysitting for her two older sisters. Bonny had been born with a lung condition that caused her to always have a chronic cough; various factors caused this condition to worsen. She tried working at a dress factory for a couple months and later as a housekeeper for a short time, but her lungs continued to worsen. When she was 20, her parents took her to St. Louis where her lung condition was finally diagnosed as Bronchiectasis. The Doctor strongly suggested that she move to a dry climate. She and her mother moved to Phoenix, AZ where Bonny stayed for about five months. In May of 1951 she came up to Plano, IL with her cousin and got a job at the Mirror Café in Plano. In the fall she started dating Arthur Kendall (Bud) Young of Plano. By February they were engaged, and they married on June 14, 1952, at the First Baptist Church of Plano, IL. They spent nearly 51 years happily together until Arthur died in May of 2003. Bonny was a stay-at-home Mom, but babysat children in her home. She remembered at least 38 children that she regularly babysat over the years. Bonny loved her Lord Jesus Christ, and one way she served Him was to teach Sunday School. She taught Sunday School for over 50 years and served in various capacities throughout her many years at First Baptist Church of Plano. Bonny loved to laugh, cook, pray and serve others. She was especially gifted at sharing her love with children. God gave her a capacity to love others deeply, and she loved to share with them what God was doing in her life and theirs.
She was preceded in death by a stillborn son (unnamed), her parents, David (Davie) L. and Stella Rose Ella Halfacre; her husband, Arthur Kendall (Bud) Young; six siblings, Faye Lowry, Thelma Roberts, Wilma Roberts, H. Wesley Halfacre and twin siblings (unnamed); five sister-in-laws, Delma (Brown) Halfacre, Marjorie (Jones) Halfacre, Margaret Young, Margerie Dwyer, and Betty Young; six brother-in-laws, Doval Lowry, Benton Roberts, Archie Roberts, Russell Young, Duwayne (Bill) Young, and Robert Dwyer; and one daughter-in-law, Linda (Jones) Young of Centennial, CO.

Young of Centennial, CO, Timothy (April) Young of Plano, IL, and Byron Young of Plano, IL, as well as seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, David Young of Centennial, CO; Amy (Luke) & Ellis, Levi, and Archer Hutchins of Centennial, CO; Joshua (Verloyn) & Daniel, Jonathan, Noah, and Esther Young of Sandwich, IL; Caleb (Hayley) & Lydia, Nicolas, and Cayde of Effingham, IL; Josiah (Andrea) & Alyssa and Jason Young of Sandwich, IL; Priscilla (Tim) & Skyler, Rylan, and Greyson Hoots of Newark, IL; and Abigail (Brandon) & August Van’t Land of Crestline, CA.
