Barbara J. (Schumaker) Pena

Barbara J (Schumaker) Pena 96, arrived in Heaven on Monday, February 26, 2024. 

She spent the last six years surrounded by amazing staff and friends as a resident of Pavilion on Main in Sandwich. Barb was born and raised in Plano, Illinois, living her years with first husband Carl (Rogers) and second husband, Joe Pena. She was a mother, Sister and Aunt who always encouraged others, especially the people she loved most. She enjoyed birds, cardinals being her favorite. In her earlier years, Barb could be found roller skating at the rink in Sandwich or accompanying her dear friend Mary to competition ballroom dancing. She loved holidays and dressing for all occasions. 

Barb was the co-owner of CBS café in Plano on Main Street. She served community members a meal with a smile. She later pursued a career in retail customer service which included positions at Hornsby’s in Yorkville and Plano Walmart where she enjoyed her time with customers and coworkers. She attended Plano Baptist Church for many of her years. Her faith was especially important to her. Her love for Jesus was strong and she was baptized this past Christmas to reaffirm her faith in her final year of life. Barbara was a long-standing member of the Plano American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of Eastern Star where she supported charitable organizations and held the title of Worthy Matron, presiding over meetings and overseeing compliance of members and the constitution of bylaws. 

She is proceeded in death by her late husbands, Carl Rogers and Joseph Pena, her parents Stanton and Marie Schumaker.

Barbara is survived by her Daughter, Sandra Rogers (Bloomington, Minnesota) and her Sister, Donna R Nelson, her beloved Nephew Steven (wife Becky, great nephews Jacob (Ashley) Nelson and Kyle Nelson and great-great niece Ayla and great -great nephew Bentley, all of Sandwich, Illinois along with many other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Barbara. Visitation with Barb’s family will beheld on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 12 noon to 2 pm at Beverage Family Funeral Home, 104 Terry St. Sandwich, IL 60548. Funeral services will commence at 2:15 pm at Beverage Family Funeral Home with interment to follow in Little Rock Township Cemetery in Plano. Services to be officiated by Rev. John Hildner, Unity Hospice and Palliative Care.
