Frederick ( Fred ) Lars Akre

September 15, 1956 — May 1, 2017

Fred Akre of Plano, Illinois, passed away on Monday, May 1st, 2017. Born on Sept. 15, 1956 in Sandwich, Illinois, he was the first of five sons born to Lawrence and Shirley Akre. He lived most of his life on the Severt Brown farm in Newark, Illinois, graduating in 1974 from Newark High School. He married Cindy Langford of Plano on Sept. 4, 1976 and enjoyed over 40 years of marriage together. After leaving their first home in Big Rock, Illinois, they moved in 1980 to their current home in Plano. Fred recently completed 35 years with ConServ FS in Waterman, a job that kept him close to the farming community he loved. He loved his job and co-workers and worked full time even through his 3 1/2 years of chemo following his 2013 cancer diagnosis. He desired to leave a strong work ethic as part of his legacy for his two children showing them that work was critical to leading a life of quality. Another legacy was his strong faith in Christ that rooted more deeply following his diagnosis. His faith gave him courage to withstand the rigors of cancer treatment with very little complaining. This made him a favorite inspiration not only to his immediate family but extended family, friends, co-workers and cancer center employees as well. He has touched countless lives in his simple, faith-filled approach to life. Fred was devoted to his family and will be sorely missed by his wife, Cindy; a daughter, Sara Kreissler, with husband, Scott, and grandson, Henry; a son, Eric, with wife, Kallie; along with his four brothers, David (Teresa), Roger (Kelley), Ken, and Dale; his brother-in-law, Steve (Jan) Langford, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Shirley. He also leaves behind many childhood friends with whom he kept in constant and regular contact believing that a person can never have too many friends. His loving, accepting manner drew people like a magnet, and he will be missed by so many. Services in celebration of his life will be held at Plano United Methodist Church on Clark and Hale Streets in Plano. Visitation at the church will be Friday, May 5th, from 5 to 8 pm; funeral service also at the church at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 6th, with burial following in the Millington cemetery. Memorials may be made to hospice or to Plano UM Church in his name. Beverage Family Funeral Home were entrusted with the services.www.beveragefamilyfh.com
