Loretta Marian Gorczynski

Loretta Marian Gorczynski 88 formerly of Sandwich passed away quietly on November 5, 2016 at DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born on July 17, 1928 to John and Harriet (Szymanski) Spiewak in the large Polish Community of Cicero, IL. She belonged to St Mary of Czestochowa Parish while in Cicero. She married Ted Michael Gorczynski in 1952 and enjoyed married life for 34 years until Ted’s untimely death in 1986. Loretta was a loving Mother, aunt, and devoted wife, an avid seamstress and quilter, and a wonderful cook and baker in the Polish tradition. She retired to Sandwich, IL. and belonged to St Paul’s Catholic Church where she was known to participate in daily rosary with her lady friends and former Pastor Father Heraty. She resided in her final years at DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center. On their frequent visits Loretta, brother in law Al, and nephew Dan would frequently engage their musical talents for the residents, with Loretta playing the accordion, Al and Dan on violin and piano. DCRNC staff always enjoyed and fondly remembers these happier times of Loretta’s residency. She is survived by her children; Christine (Robert) Chinchilla and Richard (Pamela) Gorczynski, grandmother of Brian (Felicia), Rich (fiancé Juliet), Amanda (fiancé John), Nicholas (fiancé Ashley), Matthew Gorczynski, and Great grandma to Elijah, Ronin and John, brother in law Albert Hagedorn (Florence), Nephews and nieces: Daniel (Pam) Hagedorn, John (Kim) Hagedorn, Michael Hagedorn, Alberta Eller and Charles Lewis, Josephine Mendenhall and great nephew Greg (Maryann) Spiewak. She was preceded in death by her parent John and Harriet Spiewak, her beloved husband Ted Michael Gorczynski, at birth sweet baby girl Gorczynski, granddaughter Julie, and a brother Chester and a sister Florence. Funeral Mass will be on November 8, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St Paul’s the Apostle Catholic Church with Fr. Louis Tosto officiating. Burial will take place at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery in Niles, IL. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Donations to DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center in Loretta’s memory are greatly appreciated.
