Shirley Jean Rice

Shirley Jean Rice 86 of Sandwich (formerly of Yorkville, IL) died on Thursday October 22, 2015 at Ironwood Independent Living Center in Sandwich, IL. She was born April 12, 1929 to Gladys and Robert Mason of Plano, IL. She grew up in the Plano Yorkville area, graduating from Yorkville High School. She married John William Rice in Aurora, IL on January 25, 1952 and they resided in Yorkville until his passing in 2009. Shirley worked in the office at Lyon Metal, as a cook at Yorkville Grade School and retired in 2008 from Tiem Engineerin g in Yorkville. Shirley was an active participant in all her children’s activities as they were growing up, whether it was a 4-H leader, carpooling to the marching band events, or hosting club parties. She was a member of the Yorkville Congregational Church and the Moose Lodge for several years. She is survived by her children; Dr Charles(Sue) Rice of KS, Mark (Kathy) Rice of AZ and Diane (Randy) Winders of Sandwich, IL., her grandchildren; Sarah (Shea) McGinnity, Kenneth Rice, Steven Rice, Becky Rice, Mark Rice Jr., Cameron Winders, Matthew (Jacque) Winders, Tyler Winders, 10 great grandchildren, a niece and 3 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and her husband. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Beverage Family Funeral Home in Sandwich, IL. There will be no visitation; a graveside service will be at the Elmwood Cemetery in Yorkville on Thursday, October 29th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon at her former home in Yorkville for friends and family.
